QUOTE
Eating a diet high in processed food increases the risk of depression, research suggests.

What is more, people who ate plenty of vegetables, fruit and fish actually had a lower risk of depression, the University College London team found.

Very good article Hab.
Of course, it only stands to reason that eating food that is good for you
is more likely to produce psychological well-being.

Thanks, Hab.
This may give me ammunition (rhetorically speaking) in our drive
to get our sons eating more fruits and vegetables, and less meat/dairy/
sweets. We've gone so far as to give them _carte blanche_ to eat between meal snacks - as long as it's a fruit or vegetable.

And no, potato chips (which are never in our house anyway) do NOT
count as a vegetable. The younger boy (eight) went so far as to make himself an apple sandwich. Yup, whole wheat bread, mayo and mustard - and slices of apple in between. Ingenious.

i love apple slices with peanut butter! yummy smile.gif

finally i got my bf interested in eating better too and we have been having so much fun creating beautiful, colorful meals together!!! much better than eating take out biggrin.gif

and he has noticed that he feels better all ready! less depressed; more happy and feeling like going out and doing things!

plus we look forward to our meals now tongue.gif

eta: this is even MORE important for bi-polar people; processed food even makes my bf manic and then after manic... depressed... so i know this is true!!!

the other morning he ate donuts and then proceeded to feel terrible! and he noticed it!!! success!!!

I wish I had the money, time, and inclination to eat healthier. The problem is, white bread is cheaper than wheat. Bleached flour is cheaper than whole. Frozen veggies are cheaper than fresh. It seems like our culture has made it cheaper and easier to be hooked on a diet of processed foods.
