$250-$300/per month is about what I spend now on average. I use as a supplement to my pain meds as my doctor does not prescribe sufficient amount of pain meds to cover my chronic pain issues. I hate spending money on these things, but the severity of my chronic pain problem(s) makes spending the money a significant preference to enduring the pain.

The forums recently opened to new members. Any of the n00bs care to comment on the $/month poppy and related costs? Of their tea drinking friend or relative of course. None of the folks posting hear actually drink tea!

It is difficult to say how much it costs me per month as I grow the vast majority of my own pods for arrangements. This year's grow seems pretty dismal though, I'll be lucky if I get half the amount of pods that I usually get. That being said, I probably will purchase about $100 worth of pods (100 pods) from the local flower sellers. The pods are really large and of quality stock so the arrangements are even beautiful using about three pods. I have a pretty good system in place that keeps my monkey in check. During harvest time I certainly binge a bit as the fresh pods are in my opinion the most beautiful. As soon as I run out of fresh pods and the season is over I then reduce my viewing to a couple of days per week. One batch lets me view three arrangements followed by three weaker arrangements the next day (two go to my wife though I also use pods and stems mixed, I know they aren't as lovely that way but they still hold a decent amount of beauty and certainly allow me to enjoy their beauty until next season. Near the end of the one year period I actually go down to once every couple of weeks - or save them for particularly stressful times. I do go through a decent amount of grapefruit juice though, perhaps my biggest cost All told I will probably spend about $200 this year plus about 100hrs (just a guess) put into growing, harvesting an preparing arrangements. Cheers -------------------- In Ancient China, home of the opium poppy( Papaver somniferum), there is an old legend that Buddha, in order to keep from falling asleep, cut off his eyelids and where they fell to the ground there grew an herb that had a red flower, that was to give sleep and tortured dreams to all mankind.

Well, being one of the n00bs you speak of, I will gladly comment on my roommates spending habits. He used to spend over $1000 a month supplementing his prescribed pain meds, but that was on very expensive pharmaceuticals. Luckily, he has a fairly lucrative job and a decent amount of disposable income. With pods, he said his spending has been cut to about a quarter of that. He also cut way back on his hobby, as he felt he was beginning to use a lot more than just what was needed to manage his pain and take the edge off. He also doesnt drink or anything else, so that is really all he spends his money on. |

From one that has been in cronic pain for many years now I would say my buddy spends about 250.00 a month supplementing his pain meds. Although at times like these (it seems like there is a shortage of these beautiful flowers atm) it skyrockets to about 350.00.
BTW my try at growing FAILED miserably recently thanks in part to temps over 100 deg!!!!! Had such nice sprouts |

My buddy is going to get a few days off if he keeps making these posts You may want to review why such a statement draws frowns. But hell - what do I know? I'm not a mod. -------------------- "This will kill you.

Unfortunately I have no way of editing it, so if the mod's do feel this way as well, please feel free to edit or delete. No harm intended, wasn't really reading as I was typing and things tend to go by pretty fast in my head. lol Weird I can edit this one but not the last. Swim was spending around 250 dollars per month but lately there isnt anybody selling flower supplies.Havent found any reason for the trend but it is worrysome as one who likes to arrange flowers cant find anywhere to purchase any.A few places had prices skyrocket and then ran out back in June.If anyone does have flower supplies they will cost about 4 times the original price.Just ranting.

Nah, there are good supplies left, and even at same old cost, if you know where to buy. I wish I could say where, but no sources allowed here. Chris |
